The right to health includes access to timely, acceptable, and affordable care of appropriate quality”. World Health Organisation

The people of PNG are struggling with the provision of their health. A growing population is putting intense pressure on the services available to PNG communities. Aid posts are commonly understaffed and under resourced, and many close due to financial problems.

Our project

KTF is working closely with communities to significantly increase access to primary healthcare across remote and rural areas. Together we plan and provide services that best meet the people’s needs. KTF’s support includes providing Community Health Workers, the cornerstone of the PNG rural health system, with salary support and professional development opportunities.

We also provide aid posts with a quarterly supply of medical resources, equipment, drugs and medicines. KTF’s support for CHW postings, training, supplies and infrastructure currency extends to the following aid posts, health centres and hospitals in the Kokoda Track catchment region:

  • Sogeri Aid Post: CHW posting, quarterly drugs & supplies, training & mentoring
  • Manari Aid Post: Quarterly drugs & supplies, training & mentoring
  • Efogi Health Centre: CHW posting, quarterly drugs & supplies, training & mentoring
  • Kagi Aid Post: CHW posting, quarterly drugs & supplies, training & mentoring
  • Naduri Aid Post: CHW posting, quarterly drugs & supplies, training & mentoring
  • Abuari Aid Post: Quarterly drugs & supplies, training & mentoring
  • Kou Kou Aid Post: CHW posting, quarterly drugs & supplies, training & mentoring
  • Kokoda Memorial Hospital: Quarterly drugs & supplies, additional hospital equipment, base for KTF CHWs
  • Buna Aid Post: CHW posting, quarterly drugs & supplies, training & mentoring, infrastructure

KTF is strengthening the implementation, performance and accountability of community aid posts in rural and remote areas. This includes water and sanitation infrastructure and solar solutions. In doing so, KTF is helping to facilitate the improvement, reach, and access of rural and remote primary health services.

KTF works with Provincial Health authorities and Government and non-Government partners, including the Kokoda Initiative Development Program and No Roads to Health, to strengthen the delivery of PNG Community Health Care.
