Mentoring begins for 2021 Archer Leaders
KTF is delighted to announce the incredible group or mentors for the 2021 Archer Leaders Development Program. In the program’s 11th year of finding, fostering and preparing eight of PNG’s future leaders, it takes final year tertiary students studying across the country on a one-year leadership development journey.
An essential component to the program is matching the eight Archers with an incredible mentor, with parings based on their field of study. The mentors, with their professional background and experience, will help to maximise the leadership and professional potential of the Archer Leaders though their work together.
Mentors come from a range of backgrounds from business, the for purpose sector and academia. They are leaders who have an extensive experience and knowledge in PNG and understand the challenges of leadership that come with it. Through this component of the program, students will be guided, supported and coached by their mentors throughout the course of their year-long leadership development journey.
KTF is thrilled to welcome this year’s mentors to the program:
Ben Likia (Mine Technical Services Manager for Newcrest Mining) is mentoring Clarence Baki (Unitech, Mining Engineering)

2021 brings a new element to the program, with the introduction of Chief Mentor, drawn from our Archer Alumni. We are delighted to welcome Damaris Wakip (Archer Leader, 2018) and Methuselah Wabiria (Archer Leader, 2017) as our inaugural Chief Mentors. They will provide ongoing support to the mentoring pairs and check in throughout the course of the program.
Together Archer leaders and their mentors will explore the concept of leadership using the framework of “Adaptive Leadership Model” from Harvard University. The leadership development program will also support the Archers with tuition and boarding fees, educational resource support, work experience placements, seed funding and support for a community development project in a community of choice, and will also for the first time allow the Archer leaders to participate in a life-changing experience of crossing the Kokoda Track.
Dr Genevieve Nelson, CEO of KTF says: “I am delighted to announce that we have finally matched everyone with their mentor… And what an extraordinary group we have this year!! Of course, our Archer Leaders are all inspirational; and the mentors that are joining us for this year’s journey are truly incredible – thank you for signing up to the task and joining the KTF family! This year’s cohort of mentors are a combination of first-timers and people who have mentored before; and we are delighted to be introducing you to our mentees as well as the work of KTF.”
The Archer Leadership Development Program is made possible thanks to the support of the Fred P. Archer Trust (via Perpetual) and Newcrest Mining. KTF is thankful for the constant support of these partners and their ongoing generosity in funding the Archer Leaders Development Program.
